Gardaí in Cork are searching for a number of people after finding almost €500,000 worth of cocaine in a car in the grounds of St Finbarr's Hospital in the city last night.

As part of an ongoing investigation into the activities of a criminal gang on the northside of the city, members of Cork City Drugs Squad followed a car to the hospital grounds at around 8pm.

Gardaí identified a second car which was found to contain 6kg of drugs, worth an estimated €420,000.

The first car which had fled the scene was later found abandoned in Ballyphehane.

Investigating gardaí say they are following a definite line of inquiry.
