President Mary McAleese said Northern Ireland's politicians deserve congratulations for Monday's development at Stormont.
The President said that in the coming years the power-sharing executive and the people of Northern Ireland will find that they have good neighbours south of the border.
She made her remarks during a visit to Belfast's Mater Hospital where a new MRI Scanning Centre was officially launched.
