The Revenue Commissioners have published a list of 131 tax defaulters from whom they accepted settlements during the final three months of last year.

It includes businessman Sean Barron, of Ballinclea Road, Killiney, Co Dublin, who settled for a total of €6.4m as a result of operating a bogus non-resident bank account, holding undeclared assets offshore, and underpaying on income tax and VAT.

Mr Barron's businesses include the Pamela Scott and Richard Alan chains of clothing stores.

Almost €5m of Mr Barron's settlement related to interest and penalties charges imposed by the Revenue Commissioners.

The second highest tax settlement listed was made by retired veterinary surgeon Patrick Maughan of Ballina Road, Crossmolina, Co Mayo, who paid €3m on foot of a Revenue audit.

The third highest was John McCreesh from Rock Road, Blackrock, Co Louth, who paid more than €2.84m, also as a result of a Revenue audit.

A total of €35.4m was collected from the 131 individuals listed.

Six of the settlements exceeded €1m, eight were for between €500,000 and €1m, while 63 were for less than €100,000.

40 of the cases related to the operation of bogus non-resident accounts, two concerned Ansbacher account holders, 22 related to off-shore assets, while another 30 resulted from the Revenue investigation into single-premium insurance products.
