The Court of Criminal Appeal will hear a bail application on behalf of Galway County Councillor, Michael Fahy this Friday.
Fahy, 56, from Caherduff, Ardrahan, Co Galway, was sentenced to 12 months in prison and fined €75,000 for theft and fraud offences.
He is due to present himself at Loughrea Garda Station on 3 April, from where he will be taken to Castlerea Prison.
Cllr Fahy has lodged notice of his intention to appeal the sentence with the Court of Criminal Appeal, and his application for bail, pending the appeal, will be heard on Friday morning.
