Lawyers for the Director of Public Prosecutions have made an application to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to restrict pre-trial publicity in the case of the former assistant Dublin City and County Manager, George Redmond.

Mr Redmond is due to stand trial on corruption charges on 3 July.

The DPP says pre-trial publicity could affect his chances of obtaining a fair trial.

The application is being opposed by newspaper organisations, including the Irish Independent, The Irish Times, the Irish Examiner, The Sunday Business Post, The Sunday Times and Associated Newspapers which publishes the Irish Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday.
