A new poll has revealed that more than two thirds of the Irish public would support an outright ban on hare coursing.

The survey found that 68% favoured a ban, with 72% condemning it as cruel.

However coursing enthusiasts have complained the survey was commissioned by an anti-hunt group, but the League Against Cruel Sports said its research was carried out independently and polled nearly 1,000 people.

This is the first time that the LACS has tested Irish public opinion on hare coursing, but polls in Northern Ireland showed similar support for a complete ban.
