The funeral of concert promoter Jim Aiken has taken place in Belfast.

Mr Aiken, who is survived by his wife Anne and five children, died on Tuesday after a short illness. He was 74.

Hundreds of people, including some leading names in the world of showbusiness, attended requiem Mass at St Brigid's church in the Malone Road area of south Belfast.

They included Garth Brooks, Michael Flatley, Keith Duffy and fellow promoter Louis Walsh.

The President and the Taoiseach were both represented at the funeral.

Mass was celebrated by the parish priest Monsignor Ambrose Macaulay, who acknowledged the role played by the man known as 'gentleman Jim'.

Mr Aiken's son Peter, who worked with his father, runs Aiken Promotions in Dublin.

He was buried in Jonesborough in south Armagh this afternoon.
