A 33-year-old Limerick man who threatened to kill a woman just hours after his brother had been shot dead in Southill last December has been jailed for eight months.
Paul Crawford of O'Malley Park, Southill, pleaded guilty at the city's district court today to a charge of threatening to kill his neighbour Elizabeth Spaarling in the early hours of 18 December last.
He also admitted threatening to cause criminal damage on the same night.
Gardaí heard Mr Crawford make the threat in O'Malley Park as they were investigating the shooting of his brother Noel outside the family home.
In his defence, the court heard that the threats were made as the accused man was in a state of shock after the murder of his brother.
The family home had also been targeted in a number of previous shooting incidents, and his nephew Jordan had also been injured after being shot some weeks prior to the murder.
