Concern over delay on McEntee report

The group representing the families of victims of the Dublin and Monaghan bombings in 1974 says they are concerned over a delay in the publication of a final report into the bombings.

The McEntee report on the garda investigation into the bombings, which follows Justice Henry Barron's initial report, has now been delayed for the ninth time until 13 March.

Patrick McEntee SC is the sole member of the Commission of inquiry and he has requested a further extension of time before he completes his final report.

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has said an Oireachtas debate on collusion between paramilitaries and British forces will not take place until the McEntee report is made available.

Margaret Urwin of Justice for the Forgotten said the group is concerned that a proposed debate on collusion will not now take place during the lifetime of the present Government because of the Dáil break for St Patrick's Day and the Easter recess.

A spokesperson for Fine Gael has said their party is also concerned about any undue delay to the publication of the report and it would like to see the report published within the lifetime of the current Government.
