Gardaí in Waterford have arrested a man in his 40s in connection with an assault on another man in the city.
A man in his 30s is in a critical but stable condition in hospital after being found unconscious on the footpath in William Street just before 2.30 am this morning.
A garda spokesperson said they are preserving the scene of the incident.
The victim's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
