The Justice Minister Michael McDowell has ruled out the establishment of a tribunal of inquiry into the garda handling of the Sophie Toscan du Plantier murder investigation.

An internal garda report on the garda handling of the murder enquiry is almost complete, and will be submitted to the Garda Commissioner Noel Conroy in the coming weeks.

The report's contents will dictate any further action to be taken, but it now seems a tribunal of inquiry will not be one of the options.

For the past year a team of detectives headed by Assistant Commissioner Ray McAndrew has been reviewing the garda investigation of the case.
