A new commanding officer has been appointed to the Eastern Brigade of the Defence Forces, which includes Dublin and surrounding counties.
Brigadier General Denis Murphy is a former Director of Intelligence.
Three other officers will be promoted to the rank of Brigadier General later in the year.
They are Colonel David Ashe, Colonel Michael Finn and Colonel Gerry Hegarty, who will assume command of KFOR's Multi-National Task Force (Centre) in Kosovo.
