Omagh bombing case ends, judgment reserved

Final submissions have been completed at the Omagh bombing trial at Belfast Crown Court and judgment has been reserved.

Mr Justice Weir said he would deliver his judgment as soon as possible. He said he had a great deal to think about and a great deal of material to look at again.

Defence counsel Orlando Pownall completed his submission by saying that the only proper verdicts are ones of not guilty on each of the remaining counts.

No further legal submissions were made this morning by the prosecution lawyer who argued yesterday that Sean Hoey had a case to answer.

37-year-old Mr Hoey, an electrician from Jonesborough in south Armagh, has denied a total of 56 charges, including 29 counts of murder, arising from the Omagh attack in August 1998.
