The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Micheál Martin, has appointed the current Commissioner for Taxi Regulation, Ger Deering, as the Director of the National Employment Rights Authority.
The Authority is being set up to ensure better compliance with employment rights by rogue employers, underpinned by adequate enforcement.
Its establishment was agreed in the latest partnership agreement, 'Towards 2016'.
He will take up his post tomorrow.
Mr Martin said the Government will make available all staffing and resource commitments to deliver the employment rights regime within the time frame envisaged in Towards 2016.
He is establishing the National Employment Rights Authority and its Advisory Board on an interim basis pending the introduction of legislation on employment rights compliance.
