Gardaí investigating the death of Michael Lonergan in Tralee, Co Kerry, have charged a 31-year-old man with Mr Lonergan's murder.

The man was charged this evening and is to be brought before the District Court in Killarney on Tuesday morning.

Mr Lonergan, a 34-year-old father of five from the Balloonagh Estate in Tralee, was stabbed at a house party at his home shortly after 7pm last night.

He died around three hours later at Kerry General Hospital.

A post mortem examination was carried out today and a garda technical examination of the scene has taken place.

Gardaí believe around 12 people were attending a house party at Mr Lonergan's home when a row broke out.

The alarm was raised after Mr Lonergan was stabbed.
