A man shot dead in central Dublin last night was known by gardaí to be involved in violent crime.

The 25-year-old was shot near the International Financial Services Centre at around 9pm.

He was the sixth person in six days to have met a violent death.

Two masked men are reported to have shot the man a number of times outside a shop on Mayor Street.

He suffered head wounds and was taken to the Mater Hospital where he died later.

The victim is understood to have been well known to gardaí for his involvement in abductions, armed robbery and gun crime. 

It is also understood that he had threatened gardaí in Store Street and was being investigated by the Organised Crime Unit.
