Hassan Hassan, the husband of murdered Latvian woman Baiba Saulite, has been refused bail at the Circuit Criminal Court.
Barrister Patricia Moran said Mr Hassan was making the application because he wanted to care for his two young children, aged three and four.
Ms Moran also asked the court to consider granting temporary release to Mr Hassan because he was anxious to attend his wife's removal or funeral.
However, Judge Michael White said that, while he noted the fact it was a tragic case and that two young children were without a parent to care for them, he would not be granting bail.
He said the court had a concern that there was a substantial risk that Mr Hassan might leave the jurisdiction with his two children.
Baiba Saulite was shot dead in the hallway of her home in Swords, Co Dublin, last Sunday.
Mr Hassan is serving a four-year sentence for his part in a plan to export stolen cars to the Middle East, and he is also due to be sentenced on 15 December for abducting his two children and bringing them to Syria.
Earlier, Detective Inspector Walter O'Sullivan from Swords Garda Station said he believed Mr Hassan could commit further serious offences, including murder and assault if he were released.
He said he had real fears relating to the information he had.
Court hears garda evidence
Two other gardaí gave evidence of intimidation and threats made to Ms Saulite's solicitor, John Hennessy.
The court heard there was an attempted arson attack on Mr Hennessy's home in February this year.
Sergeant Liam Hughes told the court Mr Hennessy was in fear of his life and that fear was connected with Mr Hassan.
Sergeant Hughes said he had spoken to Ms Saulite on Tuesday of last week and she had expressed concern about her solicitor's safety and the safety of gardaí involved in the abduction case.
The sergeant said, due to subsequent events, he believed Mr Hennessy and garda witnesses were in grave danger.
Towards the end of Sergeant Hughes's evidence, Mr Hassan stood up in court and shouted: 'It is not true, not true… he is lying.'
