Gardaí have officially named the man who was shot dead in Drogheda, Co Louth, earlier today as Paul Reay, a 26-year-old father of three, from Marley's Lane in the town.
He was shot dead as he left his home to go to a nearby district court to face drugs charges. It is believed that the fatal attack was drugs-related.
Mr Reay's sister was also injured in the incident in the Marley's Lane area and both were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital, while she is being treated for injuries which are believed to be life-threatening.
A burnt-out car was later found at Old Bridge, Drogheda, which may have been involved in the incident.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have seen a white Mazda car with registration 95 WW 353 (false plates) in the area this morning, or in the last few days, to contact them.
