A 39-year-old Limerick man was found guilty of murder at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Limerick last night.
Derek McNamara of St Mary's Park in Limerick had pleaded not guilty to the murder of 35-year-old father-of-four Martin O'Donoghue at Broad Street in the city on 9 August 2004.
Mr O'Donoghue died after being stabbed following a fight at a pub in the street that night.
The jury of 11 men and one woman was shown extensive video footage of the events in the pub that night, including video of the accused man assaulting the victim.
After almost three hours of deliberation, the jurors returned a unanimous guilty verdict.
The court heard that Derek McNamara had 22 previous convictions. Although the killing was not feud-related, gardaí described him as a central figure in the criminal underworld in Limerick.
Mr Justice Paul Carney imposed the mandatory life sentence.
