Limerick - O'Dea expects arrests

The Minister for Defence, Willie O'Dea, has said that gardaí in Limerick have been pouring resources into dealing with a gang feud in the city.

Mr O'Dea said extra controls were being put in place, and that 12 to 15 new officers had been stationed in Limerick within the last few weeks.

He denied suggestions that gangs were setting the agenda in Limerick and said he expected arrests would be made in the near future.

Today, the Taoiseach told the Dáil that it is a small but hardened group that operates in the Moyross area of Limerick.

However, he said, the Moyross community is a good one.

He said there was a large number of gardaí on duty in that area and that they had more than adequate resources.

He was responding to a question from the Enda Kenny during Leaders' Questions.
