A garda investigation is under way into the suspicious death of a man in the town of Croom, Co Limerick.
A neighbour found the man's body lying on the footpath close to his home on St Senan's Terrace shortly after 7.30am this morning. The body had a number of injuries.
The man has been named locally as Liam O'Donovan, who was in his 60s and single. He was involved with the town's local soccer club.
Mr O'Donovan's body has been removed to Limerick Regional Hospital for a post mortem examination, which will be conducted by assistant State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis.
Today gardaí carried out house to house inquiries and searches of the surrounding area are also being conducted in an effort to establish a motive for the man's killing.
One of the theories being explored is that the man may have been attacked after disturbing an intruder.
The gardaí have appealed for information and are anxious to talk to anyone who may have seen or spoken to the man last night or early this morning.
Any person with information is asked to contact gardaí in Askeaton on 061-601631.
