A 39 year-old man has appeared in court in Northern Ireland on two firebomb charges relating to incidents in shopping centres in Belfast and Newtownards last year.
Martin Gerard Rafferty, from Fairyknowe Park, Newtownabbbey, Co Antrim, appeared at the Magistrates Court in Belfast and was remanded in custody.
Mr Rafferty, the owner of a sandwich bar, was charged in relation to incendiary devices planted in March, 2005, at Forestside Shopping Centre, Belfast, and Ards Shopping Centre.
The charge in relation to Forestside alleged that he planted a device with intent to cause an explosion likely to endanger life or damage property.
The Newtownards charge alleged that he maliciously caused an explosion likely to endanger life or damage property.
A detective sergeant told the court that he believed he could connect Mr Rafferty to the charges and he was remanded in custody to appear again by video link on 1 December.
Resident Magistrate Fiona Bagnall told him that he had a right to apply for bail in the High Court.
