Almost 350 weapons have been handed in to gardaí as part of the weapons amnesty which ends at midnight tonight.

The guns, knives and other assorted weapons are being tested by gardaí to see if they have been used in criminal activity.

Once the amnesty ends, six new offences covering firearms will be introduced.

People convicted of these offences will be given a mandatory prison sentence of up to ten years.
