Injunction blocks registration of baby's name

Baby's name - Court grants injunction
Baby's name - Court grants injunction

The High Court has granted an injunction preventing the name of a one-month-old baby girl from being registered.

The father of the child is not married to her mother and has said he was not consulted about her forenames.

He claims that the Civil Registration Act 2004 excludes an unmarried father from registering the name of a child.

He says this is a breach of his rights under the Constitution and a breach of the European Convention on Human Rights.

The case will be back before the High Court next Monday.
