Two held after Crumlin incident

Gardaí have arrested two men following a shooting incident in the Crumlin area of Dublin, in which a garda sergeant was injured.

It happened on Monasterboice Road shortly after 7am this morning.

A car thought to have been involved in the shooting was pursued to the Drimnagh area, where it crashed. Its two occupants were arrested.

The injuries of the garda sergeant are not thought to be life-threatening.

Road restrictions are in place due to the incident: the Monasterboice Road in Crumlin is closed, and in Drimnagh the Mourne Road/ Benbulben Road junction is closed.

Diversions are in place but gardaí are advising motorists to avoid the area if possible.
