A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting incident in Co Limerick this afternoon.

Gardaí said two men were travelling in a van when a car, which was carrying at least two men, drove up behind them and a number of shots were fired.

It happened on the R512 Limerick to Bruff road near the village of Ballyneety just after midday. No-one was injured.

Gardaí have sealed off the scene for a technical examination.

The incident comes two days after a 21-year-old man was shot dead in Moyross in Limerick. The victim had aligned himself with a family involved in a feud.

It is understood the driver of the van in today's incident is a relative of one of the families involved on the opposing side in the ongoing row. His house was shot at earlier this year.

Gardaí are appealing for information about a dark coloured saloon-type car which may have been seen in the Ballyneety area.

Anyone who was in the area between 12pm and 12.30pm, and who may have witnessed the incident, should contact Roxboro Road Garda Station on 061-214347.
