A High Court judge has turned down an application to overturn the adoption of a two-year-old child.
The applicants, who are now in their early 20s, are her natural parents. They got married in January of this year and withdrew their consent to the adoption.
The matter is now under appeal to the Supreme Court.
Legal experts say that if the decision is upheld, it will be a landmark ruling for Irish adoption law.
