Roundwood - Body found in remote area

Gardaí have begun a murder investigation following the discovery of a man's body in a remote area near the village of Roundwood in Co Wicklow.

31-year-old Yohan Verhoeven was originally from Inagh Park in Ballybrack, south Co Dublin but he had lived with his partner in Bentley Park in Bray.

He was well known to gardaí in Dún Laoghaire and Bray as a significant dealer in cannabis and cocaine in south Dublin and north Wicklow and this was most likely a factor in his death.

Gardaí believe he was killed as a result of a dispute with a drug syndicate operating out of Bray.

He had been missing since 12 July but his decomposed body was found near remote woodland around 3km outside Roundwood.

Gardaí say he was murdered but was not shot, and that the results of the post mortem examination carried out last night are not being disclosed for operational reasons.

Further tests have yet to be carried out to establish the time and place of death and a forensic specialist from the UK has been called in to assist in the investigation.
