The Health Service Executive has denied speculation that the treatment room at Monaghan General Hospital is to close.
Campaigners in Monaghan have claimed that acute services are to be withdrawn and the treatment room closed.
However, the HSE has said that the hospital has an important role to play in the provision of health services in the area.
The HSE said a nurse-led treatment room will be put in place. It says that changing how services are delivered is essential to achieve better patient safety.
The Teamwork Report, published last June, concluded that there was unacceptable risk if acute medical and surgical emergency was to be provided on each of the five hospital sites in the region.
Denying that the hospital would close, a statement from the HSE said a realignment of emergency services within the Cavan Monaghan Hospital Group was on the cards.
