The family of Attracta Harron have said they are relieved that their mother's killer will spend his life behind bars.

Trevor Hamilton, a 24-year-old Co Tyrone farm labourer, is the first person in the judicial history of Northern Ireland to have been told that he will never be freed again.

Mrs Harron, who was a 65-year-old retired librarian, was abducted and murdered by Hamilton as she made her way home from Mass in Co Donegal in December 2003.

Trevor Hamilton was told in court that what he did was 'nauseating and horrifying, the stuff of nightmares and the epitome of the loss of innocence in our community'.

Today outside the court, Attracta Harron's son Micheál thanked the Strabane PSNI for bringing his mother's killer to justice.
