Bus Éireann has been charged with breaches of the Health and Safety Act in relation to the anti-lock braking system on the bus which crashed near Navan last year.

Five schoolgirls died in the accident.

The company faced two charges that on 23 May last year at Kentstown it did not have the ABS operational on the bus.

Bus Éireann was also charged with failing to instruct the bus driver in relation to the ABS and with failing to make use of the system for checking the ABS.

Another company, Kelltank Ltd, with an address in Balbriggan in Co Dublin faced two charges that on 6 May last year it failed to undertake the necessary maintenance of the bus.

All matters have been adjourned until 6 September to allow for the preparations of a Book of Evidence.
