The FBI has arrested seven people in Miami on suspicion of involvement in a plot to bomb the Sears Tower in Chicago.
The men were arrested in raids over the past two days.
The FBI issued a statement last night following raids in the Liberty City area of Miami.
The terse statement said it had executed the arrests in conjunction with federal, state and local authorities as part of what it described as 'an ongoing investigation into a terrorist-related matter'.
Five of the men were described locally as US citizens, one as a legal resident and one as a Haitian.
Security sources have been quoted as saying the group had planned to bomb the Sears Tower as well as the FBI's office in Miami and other federal buildings.
It is reported that the group was infiltrated by a federal agent.
A spokesman for the FBI in Washington said there had been no imminent threat to either Miami or Chicago as the group's planning had been at a very early stage.
Press conferences are scheduled to take place in Miami and Washington later today.
