A son of Northern Ireland’s Police Ombudsman, Nuala O'Loan, has received serious head and body injuries in an attack near his home in north Belfast.
He is undergoing tests in hospital.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault which took place on the Oldpark Road in the early hours of this morning.
