The man arrested this morning in Galway following the discovery of a woman's body in an apartment at Father Griffen Avenue is due to appear at a special sitting of Galway District Court at 10.30am tomorrow morning.

He will be charged in connection with the woman's death at the sitting.

It is understood that he was in the apartment when gardaí arrrived.

The name of the deceased cannot be released yet, as all her relatives have not yet been notified.

It is understood she was originally from Co Cork and had recently graduated from university.

The man who is in custody is believed to have been known to her.

Gardaí could not say how the woman died but they say they are not looking for a weapon at this stage.

Anyone who saw anything unusual or suspicious in the Fr Griffen Road/Fr Griffen Avenue area is asked to contact Mill Street Garda Station.

Forensic examinations were carried out at the scene and State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy performed a preliminary examination this afternoon.
