Fine Gael has selected former TD and minister Sean Barrett to contest the Dún Laoghaire constituency for the party at the next election.

He will be joined on the ticket by local councillor and barrister Eugene Regan.

At a selection convention last night, the pair defeated councillor John Bailey, a leading figure in Dublin GAA circles, who stood for the party in 2002.

Fine Gael currently has no seat in the constituency, which it formerly dominated.
