Inmates at the US Guantanamo Bay camp fought with guards trying to stop a detainee committing suicide today.
It was the fourth suicide attempt of the day.
As a guard force entered a compound to stop the suicide bid, inmates attempted to prevent them from rescuing the detainee by using fans, light fixtures and other items as improvised weapons.
Earlier, three other inmates tried to kill themselves with drug overdoses.
All four men who made the attempts have been treated, and officials said none of their lives was in danger.
A United Nations committee set up to look into torture has told the US it should close the detention centre in Cuba, as well as any other secret prisons it has abroad.
The committee also urged the US government to discontinue any interrogation technique that constituted torture or cruel treatment.
30 senior US officials were sent to Geneva earlier this month for the committee's hearings.
They said there had been relatively few actual cases of abuse.
