Brian Kennedy last night qualified for the final of this year's Eurovision Song Contest with his own composition 'Every Song Is A Cry For Love'.
He also made a piece of Eurovision history by being the 1,000th act to perform in the competition, when he took to the stage in last night's semi-final in Athens.
Nine other countries from 23 entrants also qualified for the final of the competition, which is open to all member countries of the European Broadcasting Union including Turkey and Israel.
The qualifying songs were chosen in a public vote by phone and text message.
This will also be the method used to choose a winner on Saturday, when the ten qualifiers join 14 other states that qualified automatically.
Last night’s nine other qualifiers were: Finland, Lithuania, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Ukraine, Turkey, Armenia, Sweden, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Russia.
