A prisoner escaped from Portlaoise District Court this afternoon.
He was serving a two-year prison sentence in Limerick Prison for a variety of offences including no insurance and criminal damage.
A spokesman for the Prison Service said the prisoner asked to use the toilet and escaped during that time.
The Prison Service has notified the gardaí.
