The Irish Bank Officials' Association has rejected calls from the Minister for Finance for wage restraint after inflation reached higher than expected levels.

The General Secretary of the finance union, Larry Broderick, said it was preposterous for Brian Cowen and employers to preach restraint when inflation was eating up minimal increases earned by workers.

The IBOA is seeking a 10% increase in wages over the next two years along with a local bargaining clause.
