Assault charges against two Dublin men dropped

The Dublin Circuit Criminal Court has been told that the DPP has dropped a charge against two Dublin men relating to an attack in Dublin in September 2004.

A Lithuanian man, Vytas Sukys, was left severely brain damaged following the assault near the Royal Canal.

Last year a 19-year-old, Kevin Dunne from Ballyfermot Drive in Dublin, was jailed for seven years for repeatedly kicking the victim in the head as he lay on the ground.

Leigh O'Connell, 20, from Blessington Street and Michael Rae, 20, of Eden Quay in Dublin had faced a similar charge, but that has now been dropped.

Mr O'Connell and Mr Rae were both jailed for three years for attacking another Lithuanian man on the same night.

A fund has been set up with the EBS in Phibsborough, Dublin. Donations may be lodged to The Vytas Sukys Fund, account number 39993442. Sort code 93-90-21.
