Gardaí in Cork have discovered a cocaine-mixing factory and have seized cocaine with an estimated street value of €1m.
The haul of cocaine was discovered during a search of an apartment block at Coppinger Court in Cork city centre. Gardaí also found equipment for pressing the drugs, 20kgs of a mixing agent and a loaded handgun.
Two men in their 20s were arrested during today's operation. The first man was detained after gardaí stopped his car and seized 1kg of cocaine. He is being questioned at Togher Garda Station.
The second man was arrested after he left the apartment at Coppinger Court. He is being questioned here at the Bridewell Garda Station.
Separately, a 26-year-old Clare man was charged with possession of €1m worth of cannabis resin. It was seized yesterday evening at the Glanmire by-pass on the outskirts of Cork city.
Niall Guilfoyle of Tullyglass Crescent, Shannon, was freed on bail and will be back before the court again next Monday.
