Mary Ann Leneghan - Stabbed to death

Four members of the gang of six involved in the murder of Mary Ann Leneghan in England had been on supervised probation at the time of her killing, it has emerged.

This morning a fifth member of the gang was found guilty of murder and attempted murder at Reading Crown Court. A sixth man had pleaded guilty earlier in the proceedings.

Leneghan family members were in the public gallery at the court as the last of the defendants, Indrit Krasniqi, was found guilty of murder and attempted murder. He was cleared on two counts of rape.

Ms Leneghan, 16, whose father Bertie Leneghan is from Co Mayo, was found stabbed to death in a park in Reading last May.

British Home Secretary Charles Clarke has said it is vital that lessons are learned from the case.

He said he would be studying the case with a view to making changes to the system of managing criminals on probation.
