Former lobbyist Frank Dunlop has admitted he was wrong to say he paid a £1,000 bribe to Fianna Fáil TD GV Wright for a north Dublin rezoning.

Mr Dunlop made the allegation in private session with the Mahon Tribunal in May 2000 concerning the rezoning of the Duff Lands near Swords.

He realised this was 'erroneous' after he consulted documents, but today in evidence he maintained he paid Mr Wright planning bribes on other occasions.

Mr Dunlop says he was acting on behalf of developer Robert White whose consortium Nosaka Ltd was looking for a housing and hotel development on the Duff Lands.

In his revised statement, he claims Mr White said he would 'look after GV' but asked Mr Dunlop to 'get the other councillors on side'.

Mr Dunlop said given the 'culture and the context' of the discussions he understood this to mean that Mr White was going to give money to Mr Wright and that Mr Dunlop was to pay others.

He says he paid former Fianna Fáil councillor Cyril Gallagher a £2,000 bribe to support the Duff Lands rezoning in April 1991.

Mr Dunlop admitted that he had not included this payment in a list of bribes totalling £18,000 he claimed to have paid Mr Gallagher in the early 1990s.
