Gardaí in Dublin say a man who was shot in Finglas this morning has undergone surgery but is in a comfortable condition in hospital.
The 23-year-old was shot three times on waste ground near Berryfield Drive but managed to flee to the safety of a nearby house.
They are appealing for anyone who saw anyone running, or cars or motorcycles driving in a dangerous manner in the area between 8 and 9am this morning to contact them.
Meanwhile, a district judge has extended the detention period of a man who was arrested following the murder of Donna Cleary, the young mother shot in Dublin last weekend.
David Geraghty, aged 21, with an address at Coolock Drive, who has already been detained for two days, can be questioned for another 24 hours.
Govt slammed by FG
The Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has criticised the Government in the wake of the recent shootings in Dublin.
Mr Kenny said the Government's policy on justice is 'in a shambles' and added that the gardaí must be given proper resources to do their job.
Joe Costello of the Labour Party said the fact that criminal gangs had claimed yet another victim, only days after the public outrage provoked by the murder of Donna Cleary, was yet further evidence of the virtual impunity with which the gang leaders believed they could operate.
Yesterday, Michael McDowell hit back accusing Fine Gael and the Labour Party of hypocrisy over sentencing policy.
He reminded them that they had opposed the introduction of mandatory sentences for drug dealers back in 1998, and he accused the Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny of a ‘naked attempt to score cheap political points’.
