Cash in transit guidelines published

New guidelines have been published to insure greater safety for those transporting cash and also those working in banks in the event of a robbery or attack.

The guidelines, which are voluntary, were drawn up by the Health and Safety Authority following consultation with the banking industry.

The Chief Executive of the HSA, Tom Beegan, today warned criminals that mechanisms are so advanced now that stolen cash could be dyed and destroyed within minutes of a robbery.

Under the guidelines, the responsibility for the safety of employees is shared by the cash in transit operators and by the banks. Workers also have a responsibility to ensure their safety.
