Seven people have died at a postal sorting office in California after a former employee opened fire on workers.
The woman shot and killed six people and critically wounded another before turning the gun on herself.
It is understood 50 postal employees were working in the office when the incident occurred in Goleta, about 160km northwest of Los Angeles.
The Santa Barbara News Press newspaper quoted neighbours as saying that they had heard eight to 10 shots fired before police arrived on the scene.
