The boy was taken to James Connolly Memorial Hospital for treatment before being detained and questioned for 12 hours today.
Following consultations with the Director of Public Prosecutions gardaí charged the boy with Rebecca Kinsella's murder.
He is being detained at Naas Garda Station overnight pending his court appearance tomorrow.
The State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, carried out a preliminary examination of the scene today.
Ms Kinsella’s body was removed for a full post mortem examination.
Gardaí were alerted shortly before 11pm when Ms Kinsella was found by her parents with serious injuries at the house. A local doctor pronounced her dead at the scene.
The house was earlier sealed off for a full technical examination by a team from the Garda Technical Bureau.
