A French woman who recently returned from Turkey is being tested for possible bird flu in a hospital in Montpellier.
Initial tests proved negative but the results of further examinations are due later today.
The 32-year-old woman went to hospital with flu symptoms and breathing difficulties having spent two weeks in Tarsus, a region not known to have been affected by the epidemic.
At least four people have died in Turkey from the H5N1 strain of the disease.
