Gardaí have said that in the first three weeks of the Christmas crackdown on drink driving, almost 1,000 motorists have been caught over the limit.
The campaign, which began at the end of last month, resulted in 331 arrests in the first week, 310 arrests in the second and 336 people arrested this week.
This is an increase of almost 10% on the same three weeks last year.
