Lap dancing club licence hearing adjourned

Dublin District Court has adjourned the hearing of an application for drink and dance licences for a lap dancing club at Parnell Street in Dublin city.

The Dublin North City Concerned Residents Association is objecting to the licence application.

English lap dancing operator Peter Stringfellow recently visited Dublin where he announced details of his plans to set up the lap dancing venue at Parnell Street.

The objectors say they are particularly concerned because a school is close to the proposed lap dancing venue, and also because a large part of the area around Parnell Street is residential, with many elderly people living locally.

The case was mentioned at Dublin District Court today, where Judge Mary Collins was told there were a large number of people present who had an interest in the case.

The judge adjourned the case until next year, and it will be mentioned on 4 January.

Speaking afterwards, Maria Mhic Mheanmain of the Concerned Residents Association said that she was particularly worried about the prospect of a lap dancing club operating close to where teenage girls went to school, and in the general area where young people would live and socialise.
